Why wasn’t Saruman in the theatrical cut? Like, he was one of the main antagonists and we don’t see him in Return of the King.
Clarification: I’ve seen the extended cut.
He died. And he wasn't the gods favorite like Gandalf was so they don't bring him back.
Runtime. Just like how they didn’t do The Scourging of the Shire. We are fans, but this movie still had to appeal to the masses. Plus he studio wants a ROI (meaning double what they invested)
So this is just speculation, in early 2000, Christopher Lee was in a UK TV series called Gormenghast so it is possible there were also scheduling conflicts that prevented Lee from playing Saruman easily for RotK.
I know what happens to him in the extended cut, I’m just so confused why it wasn’t just thrown in, maybe make the movie 5 minutes longer and include his conclusion.
You underestimate movie production... you don't just throw in a scene like that.
It is sorta weird
What do you think?
