What's so bad about graphic content?

I wouldn't mind a little bit of maturity in the series.

@Emperor2078 Its totally unnecessary, Tolkien would never approve and it means a lot of people on this wiki, who are minors cannot watch the show. Even some adults probably don’t want to watch a show with nudity, etc.

@Emperor2078 Its unnecessary, a lot of people i know are huge fans of Tolkien but they are minors and are Christian and their parents would never let them watch something like that, and for me personally, i am a minor and i have to watch everything with my parents if its PG13 and idk if you've ever had that experience but it is extremely awkward and uncomfortable. Plus, it seems like they are adding mature stuff to every show nowadays and while i dont mind it, i just don't watch those shows, i would greatly prefer for lotr to be left out of that.

I’m a minor and allowed to watch R movies but still, if it has sex or nudity, my parents cover my eyes. (I’m totally capable of doing that myself, I’m 13, but okay.) I would NEVER be allowed to watch this show if it has nude and sex scenes.

@Emperor2078 Graphic content would be totally adverse to the style and spirit of Tolkien's works. Tolkien never used graphic content in his stories, and I think that is part of what makes them so beautiful - the stories don't need the excitement of graphic content to attract readers. The writing and the storyline are what makes Tolkien's stories so wonderful and beloved. It is said that Christopher Tolkien disliked Peter Jackson's adaptation of LOTR because it was too focused on action/adventure. If even something like that got criticized by Tolkien, then imagine how much worse it would be if Amazon's show includes what we would call graphic content. To do so would be to throw Tolkien's tales of Middle-earth in the mud and trample them underfoot. There are my two cents on the matter. :)

Not a minor, but I consciously choose not to view that content because I believe it's the right thing to do. Plus, as @ARoyalPrincess referenced, Tolkien literally said he deliberately excluded it from his writings. How disrespectful would it be to do the very thing he didn't want?

^ Exactly. GC is not necessary to drive the plot in any way because the plot is clearly a great success without it 😌

I'm a minor and I definitely won't be allowed to watch the series, I'm not allowed to watch Game of Thrones either.

Just finished watching it. This is exactly what Tolkien stood for. He didn’t write to societies preferences, he wrote about things that were crucial to him. Why would we ruin and disrespect that by adding content we all know he wouldn’t approve of?
