If you mean the lord of the rings trilogy, then you should go ahead and read! Especially the hobbit, since that story is made for kids. Tolkien created it as a bedtime story for his children. These books have the perfect amount of everything for any age! The movies in the other hand should be left for the older kids, like 10+. They have lots of nasty fighting scenes. Have fun!
Yah, I saw he movies, but where is the nasty fighting ? I mean don't get me wrong I LOVED the movies but I saw no "nasty fighting"

I mean that some of the fights can have gross scenes like heads being sliced off. I think they aren’t that bad though; just looking out for the faint of heart!
13 is a good age to start reading Tolkien! I hope you enjoy them lots; happy reading!
