Christopher had children. That’s great cause now the Tolkien family lives on!
I want to be an actress when I’m older so I hope I can act in the Silmarillion trilogy (maybe not JUST a trilogy) when it’s made. I haven’t read most of the book yet so I don’t know which character I want to be but I’m about to finish Valaquenta.
I think if The Silmarillion were to be adapted, it’d work better as a series instead of a movie trilogy.
I think the Silmarillion could work as a series. If it does happen, I would really want to be an actress in it.
YET Both of corona and unrest are of humans fault.
The Silmarillion has way too much info to be packed into a trilogy - that would do it a great injustice. I think it would work best as a television series or something. Or you could take major portions of the storyline and adapt them individually. But either way I would love to see The Silmarillion brought to the big screen!
Tolkien himself saw The Silmarillion as mainly being about three Great Tales (i.e. 1. The Tragedy of the Children of Hurin 2. The Saga of Beren, Luthien, and Melkor and 3) The Fall of Gondolin). These were all started by him and finished in novel form by his son, Christopher. Those may be good starting points for a film trilogy, but even then, you could barely even get the very broadest strokes from each of those into a condensed film version. You could do an entire mini-series, or possibly even multiple seasons of a series, just based on the First Age or one small bit of the Second Age alone. If they adapted the Ainulindale (and maybe some of the First Age events) just as a mini-series, it could be some fantastic break-out work for lesser-known performers and pave the way for further adaptation. I just hope they'd be able to find a production & marketing crew equal to the task, as material from The Sil would also be the absolute easiest adaptation in the world to mess up entirely.
Maybe a film trilogy for each Great Tale...? I could potentially see that working---would be a bigger challenge with Gondolin, though, and I'm not sure that The Children of Hurin would have quite as much marketing appeal right away because it has such similar themes to Game of Thrones. They might want to start with a Beren/Luthien trilogy, series, or mini-series. I could potentially get behind that, if they got the right people involved.
Should be a series
I’d prefer a television series. Though anything concerning Aman or the Valar would be hard to film
Totally agree, @MageofFlames! The editing and special effects wouldn't be a cakewalk, either. Nothing like a few cities, mountains, or even continents being torn apart to get the ol' juices flowing...
What do you think?
