Since this has come up recently, I'll summarize our position here for the sake of clarity.
The Guidelines have been updated to include an overview, but in essence, what I'd like to clarify is the purpose of our own Discussions page. You'll likely notice that we intend for it to be different in nature than many other wikis' Discussions, for the following reasons. Since this Discussions page is, in fact, an extension of the One Wiki to Rule Them All, its purpose is an extension of the wiki's purpose: to be a serious, fact-based encyclopedia of all things related to J.R.R. Tolkien, chiefly his own works as well as the corresponding adaptations. As such, the Discussions here should be a place for thoughtful discussion, fact-based analysis (well-structured theories are welcome), and relevant news.
Having said that, we want everyone here to have fun. That's why (for now) we allow polls, as that has seemed to be a popular feature. We simply ask you keep these things in mind as you post, and hope our site can help bring about a better understanding of Tolkien and his works. Welcome, thanks for your understanding, and of course, don't hesitate to ask us any questions you might have!
