Your book order is perfect !
I might suggest you read the Unfinished tales after the Silmarillion tales (when you get to it), as it covers most of the parts that were missed or barely touched on in the Silmarillion. You can also do the great tales (Childeren of Hurin. etc) after Silmarillion, but they more focused on the different versions that Tolkien worked on than being an in-dept novel.
Be warned that the books are in a different style than the Hobbit and LOTR.
Enjoy your journey through Middle-earth !
“Farewell, and may the blessing of Elves and Men and all Free Folk go with you."- Fellowship of the Ring
I while ago I found out upon seeing one of the comments of a LOTR based game. I could not believe my own eyes, and thought the guy who made the comment was mistaken or might have meant J.R.R. But to my shock and disappointment, it was none the less confirmed true. Upon the first headline within seconds of a quick google bold letters stated the words I dreaded to see. Christopher Tolkien has died.
Even though this is old news, I still find it very disheartening. Like bookdragon I almost cried when I first heard it. I'm still a bit upset that I did not hear about sooner.
Rest in peace Christopher Tolkien, and Farewell.
I think Bitterhand raised a good point. But I think what Gandalf meant was that the dragon fire could destroy magic rings, and not that every magic ring found by dragons to be char-coaled by dragon fire. It does seem a little strange that a dragon would come along, stumble across a magic ring (especially since dragons love gold and treasure) and say, 'Bon Voyage ', or 'Bon Appetite' with the unfortunate magic ring immediately doused with intense heat .
On a minor note: It is possible that dragons relied on treasure, jewels, and gold for sustenance. It is also possible (maybe what Bitterhand was implying) that when they were stuffing large dwarf-lords down their gullet or having a dwarf flambe, the dragons accidentally destroyed the ring in the midst of their feasting.
P.s. Sorry for long post, and if I have offended any dwarf fans and dwarf-lords.
I'm not a great fan of tattoos, but man that is good! How long did it take ?
I have studied very little of Sindarin Elvish and mostly from LOTR, so I have no expertise in this field. I presume you have to study Sindarin Elvish via books, websites, and youtube videos. The only problem is that there is not a lot of precise information about the Elvish languages, Quenya and Sindarin.
On a personal note: Good on you wanting to understand Sindarin Elvish! Hope it goes well for you in learning it.
I believe Tolkien should have used Turin. It makes a better ending, and Hurin is avenged for his grief.
Yes, Tolkien wasn't sure if Turin or the half-elf ( I think his name was Earendil, but I'm not too sure) was going to be the slayer of Morgoth.
What I understand is that his last work is a bit like Ragnarok (the final battle in Norse mythology, not the Thor movie).
I know it is a bit late, but might as well...
It probably means center of the mountain. Not its source or something that cause the mountain to be alive. Hope that helps.

Why thank you! I would consider Halt as one of my favorite characters as well. Originally wanted to do Will Treaty, but this one looked just as nice.
I send the link in the next post.
That's a very good question.
I have heard this been asked before and I believe it 's been answered on different LOTR wiki site. I might post the link if anyone's interested.
